2 More Observations

1. Calling people is hard. Like… back in LA if I was calling someone in the same area code as me, I just dialed the 7 numbers. Here, I sometimes have to dial 503 first? WEIRD! It took me 3 tries to make my first phone call out from work haha.

2. If it’s really cold in the morning, the condensation on your window turns to ice. Freaky huh?

A real update will come soon.

So. Portland.

Some initial thoughts on Portland:

  • It like, never stops raining.
  • The speed limits are higher here.
  • The drive to Downtown Portland from my house is a little long. Oh well.
  • My house is really easy to drive past. I do it like, every time.
  • Work is so close it’s not even funny.
  • I am not nearly as cold as I expected to be.
  • We have all the essentials really near by.
  • There’s no sales tax! Totally awesome.
  • Somebody else pumps my gas. It’s a trip.
  • I think I like it here.

The drive up was fairly uneventful. Just really god damn LONG. I never want to drive again. My tarp came loose while I was on the road so I had to pull over on the freeway and fix it. I was all MacGyver status with my swiss army knife and twine, climbing on that truck tying things down. I must have been quite the sight to see

I stopped in Rancho Cordova at my friends house for the night, then trudged along for like, 9 hours the rest of the way. I got snowed on! I didn’t need chains, which I was a little bit bummed about because I dropped $50 getting some just in case, but whatever. I suppose it was nice being able to drive a decent speed without them haha.

I got here Thursday and my new housemate Erick helped me bring all my junk in, and also his mom and siblings who were just leaving when I got here. Then Erick had to leave which was kind of funny. “Hi, here’s a key, sorry I won’t be here tonight, don’t make a mess!” hahaha.

So Friday I spent the whole day unpacking and I bought a mattress and a desk. Oh, and work clothes. I am officially broke until next month. Icky. Then Erick and I drank a whole lot of beer and watched Beerfest (totally appropriate, no?) and that was that.

Yesterday I did some more organizing then got tired of it. I need a break for a few days. Everything is shoved in my closet right now haha. Theeeen Erick and I drove to Downtown Portland to pick up Taco Bell and his friend Jim, and the three of us went to the Blazer’s game. They totally lost but it was fun anyway. I almost died on the stairs and now have a nasty bruise on my foot. Wearing shoes is a painful experience.

After the game, we met up with some more of their friends and went barhopping. Everybody was really nice, I had a good time. Of course, this morning I was hungover beyond belief. I trudged to Albertson’s and bought like, 2 gallons of Powerade. It was on sale for dirt cheap. So I drank a bunch of that and had some cereal and Excedrin and I feel much better.

I start work tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I’m in Portland!!!!!

After a whole awful lot of driving, I have finally arrived in Portland!!!! YAY!

I have no furniture and I am really insanely tired. Pictures and stories coming when, well, my brain functions. I just wanted you guys to know I made it and am alive! There’s a couple of pictures from my journey on KSF To-Go to tide you over. Now I am off to somewhat organize my stuff and then watch a movie and sleep.

Oh yeah, and new housemate is totally awesome.

That is all.

It’s Almost Time!!!

The countdown is on!! T-Minus 6 days!

I’m crazy busy and stressed now haha. I have to condense my whole life down to whatever I can fit into my truck. I can’t afford a POD and I’m not into driving 1000 miles going 45 to rent a uhaul hitch. So, no furniture for Katie. C’est la vie.

I need to buy all new clothes for my new job. I’m going to get a raise, woot! Make more money in a place that costs less, things are starting to look up

So yeah, I have a job lined up, I have a place to live, my dog is going to stay with my mom for a while… YAY!!!!

*can’t. wait.*

… i might miss some people here though …

Whoever Invented 3 Day Weekends ROCKS!

Yay! I love three day weekends. Actually, I love all weekends, but I love 3 day ones better. Because they are longer. Duh :D

Sooo Friday was awesome. I went and hung out right after work with a couple of my friend’s from highschool, which is always nice. I lost Emo Hat but I think Karo said he has it so I will have to get it tomorrow.

After that, I went over to Jeremy’s house so that we could go DRUNKEN BOWLING!! It was Kevan’s birthday so a bajillion people went to this bowling alley to celebrate. I bowled better than my average and I couldn’t even walk straight. It was awesome, until I realized Jeremy beat me by ONE PIN. ONE!!! What is that nonsense?!?!?! Rawr. But the second game, I was getting strike after strike and I totally stomped, so there.

Saturday I woke up with like, the hangover from hell. Jeremy and I went and had the nastiest Panda Express on earth… the orange chicken was soggy and tasted like vinegar. It made me queasy, and the egg rolls weren’t really any good either. How can Panda Express not be good??!! I was not happy. So then I had to go to Taco Bell and get tacos and then I felt better. Then Friend Tom dragged me up a mountain and I felt better. We got robbed by the zoo, they didn’t let us in to see the monkeys. Also, my foot started bleeding and wouldn’t stop for like, 2 days. Nice.

Yesterday I drove up to Fontana to meet my new roommate. He is now staying here at my house. I got to meet his family and they all seem pretty cool. We leave in like, 10 days. EXCITING! Also, we had dinner and watched Ghost Rider which was a pretty wicked movie. Good times.

I spent a whole awful lot of time distracting Jeremy from drawing, oops. I kept trying to make him do it! I swear! “Jeremy! Go draw!” “I will in a couple minutes!!” “Uh huh.” I’m kind of going to miss him :(
